Misty White, LPC, NCC
Misty White is a licensed profession counselor in the state of Colorado. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a master's degree in Community Counseling, emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Her under graduate degree is in Psychology, emphasis in Early Childhood Education.
After graduate school Misty moved to Dallas, TX where she earned her professional counselor licensure in State of Texas While in the Lone Star State, she worked at a group home for youth, provided drug prevention and awareness educational groups to middle aged and high school students, facilitated family/individua|/ and group therapy through a community based organization and led parenting classes. She also worked on the adolescent and addiction unit at a psychiatric hospital in Dallas.
Currently Misty works at a pediatric therapeutic residential child care facility (TRCCF) and has since January 2007. In this role, she specializes in providing treatment to children who have experienced complex trauma and their caregivers, working to improve their mental health, build coping skills and decrease problematic behaviors.
She started training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) in 2009 is a Certified EMDR therapist specializing in work with children who have experienced trauma or other difficult events (abuse, neglect, medical trauma, witnessing violence, chaos). While working at the TRCCF, Misty has had the honor and privilege to work with Dr. Bruce Perry's Child Trauma Academy and has been trained on his Neurosequential Model of Therapuetics. This model integrates neuroscience with the helping profession, paying credence to the effect that trauma can have on the brain, and tailoring interventions to target specific areas of the brain that help children achieve stability.
In April 2010, Misty started a private practice to help adopted children and their family’s gain skills and insight to help work through behavioral problems and difficulties trusting in primary relationships, that often occur as a result of the complex trauma experienced by these children, as well as providing individual therapy and EMDR.
Misty enjoys educating and training professionals and has presented at the COVA Conference, Amend, Crossroads, and Lifeßridge Christian Church, on topics such as grief and loss , trauma’s effects the brain and how to intervene effectively.
Misty enjoys learning new techniques in the field and prioritizes her own continuing education as vehicle to provide the most effective treatment for her clients.
